American Family offers a variety of medical plans, allowing you to find one that meets the needs of you and your family. All full-time and some part-time employees are immediately eligible to enroll in a medical plan. You can enroll yourself and your dependents—a spouse, domestic partner and/or child(ren). And what's more, as a full-time employee, we pay 90 percent of your premium and 50 percent of the cost of your dependent coverage. As a part-time employee, we pay 65 percent of your premium and 30 percent of your dependent premium.
The plan options vary depending on where you live. Most plans offer comprehensive coverage including preventive care and prescription drug coverage, but there may be variation in deductibles, co-pays and coinsurance.
American Family offers two dental options administered by Delta Dental. All full-time and some part-time employees are immediately eligible to enroll in a dental plan. Like medical, you can enroll yourself and your dependents – a spouse, domestic partner and/or child(ren).
The first option is our Standard Plan which provides coverage up to $1,000 per year for each insured to cover such services as preventive, restorative, and surgical procedures. For a full-time employee, we pay 90 percent of your premium and share equally in the cost of your dependent coverage. For a part-time employee, we pay 65 percent of your premium and 30 percent of your dependent premium.
The second option is our Extra Plan, which provides coverage up to $1,500, including orthodontics. We pay the same dollar amount towards your premiums as we do for the Standard Plan. You are responsible for the remaining premium.
American Family offers vision insurance though VSP Vision. All full-time and some part-time employees, along with your dependents (spouse or domestic partner and/or children) are eligible to enroll.
The plan provides coverage for exams, as well as frames, lenses and contacts. Other vision benefits are also available in the plan.
Since this is an optional plan, you pay the full cost for the coverage.
Group Legal Insurance
American Family provides pre-paid group legal coverage through Hyatt Legal Services. All full-time and some part-time employees, along with your dependents (spouse or domestic partner and/or children) are eligible to enroll.
The plan provides a variety of personal legal services for you, your spouse or domestic partner and your dependent children. Most covered services are provided at no cost beyond the monthly premium.
Since this is an optional plan, you pay the full cost for the coverage.
American Family 401(k) Plan
The American Family 401(k) Plan offers you a great opportunity to save and invest in your future. The plan is funded by you and the company provides a match. All employees are eligible to participate in the plan, and newly hired employees are automatically enrolled. You can modify your investments and contributions at any time and contribute up to 30 percent of eligible earnings, or opt out if you don't wish to participate. You can even roll funds from another employer's qualified plan to your 401(k) account.
The company match is a fixed dollar-for-dollar match on the first 3 percent of eligible contributions and 50 cents per dollar on the next 2 percent. We offer a variety of investment funds to choose from, ranging from money markets to an international fund to target date retirement funds. Depending on the investment option you choose, you may be responsible for investment fees.
American Family also invests in your future with a Cash Balance Employee Pension Plan. All American Family employees age 21 or older become participants in the plan after one year of service. After three years of service, the benefit is fully vested and available for a future payment. The cash balance pension plan is a defined-benefit plan in which each employee has an account that is credited with a specific percentage of eligible pay each year, depending on age and years of service. The account grows with interest until the employee withdraws the balance upon retirement or leaving the company after becoming vested. Best of all, it's completely company funded and requires no contributions from you.
The Flexible Spending Plan allows you to save for eligible health care and dependent care expenses on a tax-free basis. All full-time and some part-time employees are immediately eligible to enroll (regardless of whether you enroll in medical or dental benefits) in one or both of the account options we offer: a Health Care Account and a Dependent Care Account.
American Family Insurance understands employees' need to balance their work and personal lives.
To maintain this balance, the company provides vacation time to all full-time and some part-time employees. Newly hired employees, if eligible, earn one week of vacation after six completed pay periods. This time is available for immediate use once it is fully earned.
You also earn vacation time each pay period for use during the following vacation year. Time is accrued based on your length of service and is available for use after April 1, the start of the next vacation year. If you can't use all your vacation time in a given year, you can carry over time into the next vacation year.
Personal time provides additional paid time off to help with those last-minute emergencies, religious or cultural observances, recreation or any other reason you choose. All full-time and some part-time employees earn personal time every pay period, and it is immediately available for use.
Sick leave is paid time off for use during absences due to personal and/or family illnesses, injury or medical appointments. Time is earned each pay period and is available for use as soon as it's earned. Also, there is no limit to the amount of sick leave you can accrue.
In addition to an established traditional holiday schedule, American Family Insurance offers one paid "floating holiday" each year. You can use this personal day for a birthday, a religious or cultural event or just some "me" time. Your holiday schedule, and eligibility, may vary depending on your department and normal work schedule.
Short-term disability is another program that protects you financially. It replaces 70 percent of your income in the event that you can't work due to an injury, illness or personal health condition. All full-time and some part-time employees are immediately enrolled at no cost. Short-term disability provides income protection from the 15th day to the 90th day of a continuous absence.
Coverage under the Long-Term Disability plan is available if you are unable to work due to injury, illness or personal health condition while actively employed. Our long-term disability plan will provide 60 percent pay replacement starting on the 91st day of a continuous absence. Full-time and some part-time employees are immediately eligible for long-term disability. Long-term disability is fully insured though Unum and is provided at no cost to all full-time and some part-time employees immediately upon hire.
American Family Insurance believes in the power of education and encourages continuous learning throughout our employees' careers. Every employee, regardless of position or location, can participate in learning opportunities offered by the Education Division. In addition, American Family pays for approved insurance industry courses.
Tuition Reimbursement Program
American Family also offers a Tuition Reimbursement Program to support your efforts in continuing your education and your professional and personal development. To be eligible, you must be a regular full-time, active employee or a defined or regular part-time active employee in good standing, with at least twelve consecutive months of employment at American Family Insurance.
The program covers not only tuition, but the cost of textbooks and qualifying educational fees. Full-time employees are eligible for up to $3,000 per year in tuition reimbursement, and part-time employees are eligible for up to $1,500 per year.
A little flexibility goes a long way—and American Family Insurance offers several work schedule options designed to help you effectively balance the needs of your personal life while meeting the needs of our customers.
Our flexible schedule options include:
- A 5-day, or "regular" work schedule, which covers a work week of 7 hours, 40 minutes daily.
- A 4-1/2-day schedule, which covers a work week of 8 hours, 25 minutes for four days and 4 hours, 40 minutes for one day.
- An alternating 5-day/4-day schedule, which covers a pay period of 8 hours, 30 minutes for nine days and one full day off.
- An alternating 4-day/5-day schedule, which covers 4 days of 9 hours, 35 minutes per day for one week and 5 days of 7 hours, 40 minutes per day for the alternate week.
