American Family Insurance values programs that help youth and provide educational opportunities for an increasingly diverse population. Our support includes funding youth resource centers, after-school programs, neighborhood centers, and mentoring projects.

The 2013 Pat's Run.

On the education front, American Family has been a major sponsor of the annual Pat’s Run, an event first held in 2006 to honor the memory of Pat Tillman, the NFL star who enlisted in the Army in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks and was killed in Afghanistan in 2004.

Soon after this death, his family and friends established the Pat Tillman Foundation, which raises money to provide scholarships for children and spouses of military personnel. In 2013, more than $1 million in scholarships was distributed to 60 military veterans, spouses and families.

We also have a special focus on youth and families. That’s why for the past four years, American Family has been a title sponsor for the Rotary’s annual dinner auction that raises money for various charities. In 2013 the rotary partnered with the City of Bellevue to raise $1.5 million to build a new Inspiration Playground, designed for children with disabilities.

“Pat's Run is a lot of fun, and it feels good knowing I’m giving back to the community in some way … helping a student go to college who couldn’t afford to do so otherwise. This year I’m doing the run with my daughter Melissa, who also works for the company, and my son, Nick … He’s young and will probably leave us in his dust!”
