Government Affairs and Compliance is made up of three different departments:

1. Government Affairs - Government Affairs seeks to build and maintain relationships with state and federal legislators and regulators in order to influence legislation and regulations in ways that allow our company to serve customers efficiently and increase our profitable marketing of insurance products to customers.

They ensure that our legislative and regulatory initiatives, whether promoting an issue or seeking to defeat it, are consistent with the business unit's goals and objectives. They provide accurate and timely information to divisions about relevant changes in the laws and regulations in our operating states.

2. Compliance - Compliance is responsible for assuring that proper standards and procedures are in place to comply with the American Family Insurance code of ethics and with all federal/state laws and regulations relating to our company's insurance and business activities.

3. Consumer Affairs - Employees of Consumer Affairs respond to questions, comments and complaints, primarily regarding problems or misunderstandings. They also educate employees and agents about proper complaint-handling procedures.
