Well, the answer depends somewhat on where you work. Although employees at all of our offices enjoy clean and modern working conditions (that's a must!), the specific type of work environment varies from office to office.
National Headquarters
At our National Headquarters (NHQ) building in Madison, located in the American Center on the city's northeast side, employees are spread throughout a campus that consists of five buildings - several of which are connected by walkways and all of which provide scenic views of the surrounding countryside.

The NHQ (as we call it) is a state-of-the-art facility that blends bright, modern offices with open workspaces designed to encourage friendliness and collaboration, yet still allow employees to focus on their work.
The NHQ features ample covered parking, two convenience stores, a spacious cafeteria and a host of other amenities. You'll also find easy access to the Dane County Regional Airport, quality childcare facilities, a variety of restaurants - and some of the best shopping in Madison is only minutes away!

Regional & Branch Offices
Not all of our employees work at the NHQ, however. American Family Insurance also has buildings located in some of America's greatest cities - cities like Denver, Phoenix, Chicago, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, Columbus, Indianapolis and Kansas City. Although many of our operations are centralized in Madison, there are many career opportunities in these locations – including claims, legal, medical services, office administration, education and more!

"Wired" Workforce
When you think of insurance, you may not automatically think of technology – but American Family Insurance employees have access to a tremendous amount of technology, from desktop and laptop PCs (our PC-to-employee ratio is 1:1) to e-mail to pagers to cell phones to videoconferencing equipment. Our workforce is definitely “wired” (and not just from the coffee!).
Technology links our employees together, no matter where they are located, and our corporate intranet serves as a vital network for sharing information as well as delivering services right to the desktop. As a result, we’re well on our way to achieving our goal of establishing a “paperless” office.
