At American Family Insurance, caring for customers is integral to the way we do business. We also strengthen the communities where our customers live, and beyond. Here is a high-level look at how our financial contributions make the world a better place.

Our financial contributions, however, only tell part of our story of giving back to communities. Wherever American Family has a presence, our agents and employees volunteer many hours of their time to benefit charitable, nonprofit and civic groups. And we serve as a major sponsor of charitable events and community organizations throughout the country.
Here's a state-by-state look at some of the activities and organizations we support.
American Family has helped sponsor "Pat's Run," the signature fundraising event for the Pat Tillman Foundation, and many of our agents and employees, as well as their families, participate in the run. Named after Tillman, who died in Afghanistan after having put his NFL career on hold to serve in the military, the Pat Tillman Foundation assists military veterans and their spouses through educational scholarships. It also builds a diverse community of leaders committed to serving others. We also have supported the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metropolitan Phoenix, which provides a variety of programs in the arts, education, career and leadership development, and more.
American Family Insurance has supported "Walk Like MADD," a five-kilometer walk held in Denver. The funds raised through Walk Like MADD go to Mothers Against Drunk Driving Colorado, which provides community education, victim support services and youth programs. In addition, American Family agents and employees have volunteered their time for cultural events, such as the Colorado Dragon Boat Festival, featuring multicultural foods and performances, as well as Dragon Boat races.
American Family Insurance has supported the Boys and Girls Clubs throughout metro Atlanta, which serves thousands of children and teens, many of whom are economically disadvantaged. The organization operates full-time clubs, a year-round residence camp, and art programs. We also have supported the Urban League chapter in Atlanta, which promotes early childhood literacy, administers job-training programs, sponsors health and wellness activities and encourages citizens to participate in community service projects.
American Family sponsors several Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® events. Since its inception in 1982, Susan G. Komen for the Cure® has raised nearly $1.5 billion, becoming the world's largest source of nonprofit funds dedicated to the fight against breast cancer.
American Family Insurance has provided financial assistance to Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago, which creates opportunities for people to live in affordable homes and strengthen their neighborhoods. And, we sponsor several Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® events in several Illinois cities, including Peoria – the site of the original Race for the Cure and the hometown of Susan Komen.
American Family Insurance has sponsored the American Lung Association's "Fight for Air Climb" event in Indianapolis, a type of "vertical race" in which teams and individuals climb multiple flights of steps in skyscrapers. We also have supported, among other activities, the Special Olympics and the Circle City Football Classic. The Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and athletic competition in Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. The Circle City Football Classic, which matches two teams from traditionally African-American colleges, helps raise funds for college scholarships and youth initiatives.
We have supported the Iowa Asian Alliance, a nonprofit group established by Asian-American business, community and civic leaders with the mission of fostering cultural understanding and economic growth in the state. Among its activities, the Alliance helps sponsor CelebrAsian, an annual event featuring displays and exhibits of Asian culture, cuisine and art.
American Family Insurance has supported the Ronald McDonald House in Topeka, which offers families a place to stay while their seriously ill children are being treated in local medical facilities. Additionally, we support the Boys & Girls Clubs of Topeka, which offer programs in the arts, education, career and leadership development, health awareness, life skills, sports, fitness and recreation.
American Family has supported the Children's Cancer Research Fund and the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. The Children's Cancer Research Fund supports the University of Minnesota, a national leader in pediatric cancer research, in its efforts to prevent, diagnose, treat and cure childhood cancers. The Hispanic Chamber of Commerce supports activities designed to boost local economic development while increasing residents' access to bilingual and culturally relevant business training.
We have supported Neighborhood Housing Services of Kansas City, an organization devoted to revitalizing and preserving the city's neighborhoods. Among its activities, Neighborhood Housing Services provides financial education (such as home ownership counseling and foreclosure prevention guidance) and leadership on neighborhood improvements, such as landscape beautification. For years, employees in our St. Joseph Regional Office have donated food to the Second Harvest Food Fight, a food drive among local businesses that helps feed the hungry. In 2011, American Family was the top contributor among businesses exceeding 200 employees.
American Family has supported the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life in Omaha. At this event, teams of participants take turns walking or running around a track for up to 24 hours. Teams collect pledges for their walking or running, with the money going to benefit cancer research.

The Children's Miracle Network works to fund medical equipment, services and programs for ill and injured children.
American Family has helped sponsor charitable events managed by the NBA's Utah Jazz. More than 20 American Family volunteers collected toys at two Jazz games for the Toys for Tots program. We also volunteered at Silent Auction Nights, held at four Jazz games. Proceeds from these auctions went to the Larry H. Miller Charities, which help children in communities throughout Utah.
American Family Insurance has supported the Treehouse in Seattle and Transitions in Spokane. Treehouse helps children in foster care by offering a summer camp, tutoring and educational advocacy. Transitions provides housing and the opportunity to develop independent living skills to women who find themselves in challenging positions in their lives. American Family Insurance also has sponsored the Bellevue Rotary Foundation, benefiting nonprofit groups in Bellevue.
In our home city of Madison, American Family Insurance supports the Ronald McDonald House, which offers families a place to stay while their seriously ill children are being treated in local medical facilities, including the American Family Children's Hospital.
