Driver Safety Tips - Cell Phone Usage

If you're driving, you may be taking your cell phone with you - a good move, because your phone can be invaluable in case of breakdowns or emergencies.

Please remember that cell phones themselves can be hazardous. Drivers talking on cell phones are responsible for about 6 percent of U.S. auto accidents each year, according to a study by the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis. These accidents kill an estimated 2,600 people and injure 330,000 others.

If you need to use your cell phone, safely pull off the road. Even hands-free cell phones can be distracting. You're much better off taking a time out from driving before you start to talk. And that's true whether you're traveling the nation's highways on your vacation or just going down the block to the corner store.
