• American Family Insurance began on Oct. 3, 1927, when Herman Wittwer opened the doors of Farmers Mutual Automobile Insurance Company in Madison, Wis.
  
• Over the years, we’ve expanded our market and product line to meet the changing needs of our customers. In 1963, we changed our name to American Family Mutual Insurance Company to reflect this broader customer base.
  
• Today, American Family Insurance serves 19 states.  We offer auto, home, life & annuities, health, business and farm & ranch insurance.
