  • What system requirements are needed to use My Account?
    • In order to access My Account on amfam.com, you will need one of the following browser versions that support 128-bit encryption:

      •  Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.0 and later
      •  Mozilla Firefox 1.0.7 and later
      •  Safari 1.3.2 and later
      •  America Online (using IE 6.0 as the embedded browser)
      •  Microsoft MSN Explorer (using IE 6.0 as the embedded browser)

Other browsers may or may not work properly. We cannot guarantee the performance for unsupported browsers.

Test your browser settings to see if it meets the requirements.

  • How do I know My Account is secure?
    • To help ensure the security of personal and financial information that you submit through this Web site, we use security software to encrypt information during its transmission. We only allow information to be submitted for transmission if your browser is compatible with our security software. If your browser is not compatible, you will receive a message indicating your transaction cannot be completed because of the security risk.

  • What is 128-bit encryption and why do I need it?
    • American Family Insurance uses a secure server and security protocol to safeguard any information you provide online. The secure server implements the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) protocol to interact with you when you provide personal information. This state of the art technology sends your data through an encrypted tunnel via 128-bit encryption so a third party cannot read the information while in transit. All personal information stored by American Family Insurance is housed securely and outside entities cannot access this information via the Internet.

  • How do I know if my browser's encryption is working when I am online?
    • An icon, such as a closed padlock or a key, will be displayed in a corner of your browser's window when an encrypted connection is active. An open lock or broken key icon indicates that your connection is not encrypted.

  • What steps can I take to help ensure the security of my personal information?
    • There are several things you can do to protect your American Family Insurance accounts:

      •  Never reveal your user ID, password, or the answers to your security questions to anyone.
      •  Change your password frequently using the “Change Password” link on the Profile page.
      •  Always log off My Account before accessing other Web sites or before walking away from your computer.
      •  Close your browser when you have finished using the site.

  • Why does my browser need to have cookies enabled?
    • The My Account system requires that cookies be enabled in your browser in order for the system to work properly. Please note that the cookies used are temporary and only exist while you are using this site; nothing permanent or sensitive is ever stored with your browser. For the utmost in safety, these temporary cookies are also encrypted.

  • Why does my browser need to have JavaScript enabled?
    • My Account requires that JavaScript be enabled in your browser in order to make the system easier to use. JavaScript is used to make certain pages dynamic and user-friendly.

  • Why did I receive a message stating the system is temporarily unavailable?
    • While we attempt to make the My Account system available 24 hours a day, it is inevitable that it must be made unavailable for short periods of time in order to perform routine maintenance. If you receive a message indicating the system is down, please be patient. We will have it available shortly. Should the system be down for an extended period of time, and you need to make a transaction, please contact your agent or the Customer Care Center at 1-800-MYAMFAM (1-800-692-6326).

  • What Are “Web Cookies”?
    • Web cookies are small computer files that a Web site places on an Internet user's computer that are designed to store basic information. As a general rule, cookies help Web site operators serve their users better and more quickly. There are two types of cookies: session and persistent. Session cookies exist only during an Internet user's online session. They do not collect information from a user's computer, and they typically store information only in the form of session identification. Session cookies are erased from a user's computer when the user closes the browser software. Persistent cookies remain on a user's computer after the browser has been closed, and are stored on a user's hard drive until they expire or until the user deletes the cookie. Persistent cookies are used to collect identifying information about a user, such as Web surfing behavior or user preferences for a specific Website.

  • How We Use Web Cookies?
    • When you interact with the American Family Insurance Web site, we strive to make that experience easy and meaningful. Our Web server uses both session and persistent cookies to improve your interaction with the Web site, and to help us improve user experience. We use cookies to measure behavior on this Web site for usability purposes and to save choices made on some pages. The cookies used on this Web site do not identify you personally. Unless you choose to identify yourself voluntarily, they merely recognize your browser. You may choose to identify yourself to us by requesting a quote, by requesting more information on a product or service, or by completing one of several forms on the Web site used for contacting us. Otherwise you will remain anonymous. Users who disable their Web browsers' ability to accept cookies will still be able to browse this Web site; however, we encourage you to accept cookies (which can be set through your browser settings) so that we may take further strides in making this Web site easier for you to use.
