Madison, Wis. (September 29, 2011) — The Web Marketing Association announced that American Family Insurance's website, amfam.com, was the Best of Industry winner in the insurance category of the WebAward Competition for website development.
"This type of industry recognition affirms we're on the right track with our efforts to continually provide content that helps consumers understand insurance and make decisions," said Bill Simon, American Family's digital marketing director.
Amfam.com includes a variety of self-service features, including a "My Account" section where customers can pay bills and check on the status of their insurance claims. The website also gives visitors the ability to quote and purchase some insurance products, use a life insurance and annuities needs calculator, and access videos and information that help them understand how insurance can proactively protect their family and their belongings.
More than 2,000 entries from 45 countries were adjudicated in 96 industry categories during this year's competition. Entries were judged on design, copy writing, innovation, content, interactivity, navigation, and use of technology.
American Family's website was evaluated against 15 other insurance companies, receiving a composite score of 68.5 out of 70 points. The average for the insurance industry was 49, while the average among all categories was 53.4.
The competition was judged by a team of independent Internet professionals representing a variety of relevant disciplines of website development.
