Madison, Wis. (Jan. 26, 2012) — American Family Insurance announced the two grand prizewinners of its second annual Jingle Dreams contest. The winners, Joseph Dowdy of East Syracuse, N.Y., and Michael Corbus of Portland, Ore., were chosen among nearly 500 contest entrants. Each will receive an all-expenses-paid weekend of inspiration to Indianapolis, Feb. 3 - 5, 2012. The prize includes tickets to Super Bowl XLVI for themselves and a guest to see the New England Patriots and the New York Giants battle for the NFL title. The Jingle Dreams contest winners are also granted VIP access to major events including the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration and Taste of the NFL XXI Charity Fundraiser, and the chance to mix and mingle with celebrities, professional athletes and team owners.
One of the highlights of the American Family Insurance weekend of inspiration is the opportunity for Dowdy and Corbus to participate in the Super Bowl Gospel Celebration. This year's event will be hosted by the multi-talented Wayne Brady, current host of the iconic CBS game show Let's Make A Deal, with gospel's sweetheart, CeCe Winans, as co-host. American Idol winner Fantasia will headline the show with performances by top gospel and contemporary Christian artists Natalie Grant, Donnie McClurkin, Hezekiah Walker and other celebrity guests including members of the NFL Players Choir, a group of 30 multi-talented, active and former NFL players.
Dowdy leads an Syracuse, N.Y.-based ministry. Known as "Minista Whisper" in the Christian hip hop community, Dowdy submitted an original and creative video showcasing his gospel rap talent. He often performs in his hometown with his six-year-old son, Josiah. "I feel blessed to win the 2012 Jingle Dreams contest," said Dowdy. "This win isn't just for me, but for my wife and kids, for the body of Christ, for the people that I minister to and for the homeless that we help clothe and feed. This win is also for our church and for all those who have supported and believed in me over the years."
Corbus submitted a video of himself, his wife and three young children. The star of the video was the youngest child, four-year-old Kylie, born with cerebral palsy. "Our dream is for Kylie to walk unassisted without holding onto anything," said Corbus. "She is one of the many bright lights in our lives, and we believe our dream of Kylie walking on her own can come true. We tell people all the time to never give up on their dreams."
Thousands of consumers voted online for their favorite Jingle Dreams contest videos. Dowdy and Corbus were among the top ten viewers' choices. Both stood out among very talented individuals across the country. Once the top ten videos were chosen by consumer vote, American Family Insurance enlisted the help of celebrity judges to select the two grand prizewinners. The panel included Chandra Currelley (actress and singer), Natalie Grant (contemporary Christian singer and songwriter) and London Fletcher (Pro Bowl linebacker for the Washington Redskins). The judges based their votes on criteria that included presentation, creativity and originality, as well as entertainment value.
"We are thrilled to shine the spotlight on the dreams of our two 2012 Jingle Dreams contest winners, Joseph Dowdy and Michael Corbus," said Telisa Yancy, advertising director, American Family Insurance. "We wish them the best and trust that the upcoming weekend of inspiration during Super Bowl XLVI will be filled with excitement while encouraging them to further their dreams."
