Jack Salzwedel

Jack Salzwedel

Jack is chairman and chief executive officer of American Family Insurance.

A native of DeForest, Wis., Jack began his career with American Family in 1983 as a claim adjuster. In 1985, he became an agent in Sun Prairie, Wis., before moving to a district sales manager position in 1988. He became state sales director of Wisconsin East in 1995.

In 2000, he was named vice president of the Personal Lines Division, and in 2003 he was elected life/health vice president. In 2004, he was elected executive vice president, overseeing the company's five regional sales operations, marketing and broker/dealer divisions. Jack became chief operating officer Aug. 1, 2006, and president and chief operating officer Jan. 1, 2007. He became chairman and chief executive officer Nov. 1, 2011.

Jack serves on the board of directors of American Family Mutual Insurance Company, the Property and Casualty Insurers Association of America (PCI), the Insurance Information Institute, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and United Way of Dane County. He is co-chairman of the board at the American Family Children's Hospital and a member of the Board of Regents at Wartburg College. He also serves on the executive roundtables for the Life Insurance Marketing & Research Association and PCI.

Jack earned a bachelor's degree in biology and business administration from Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Dan Schultz

Dan is president and chief operating officer of American Family Insurance.

He joined American Family in 1977, working part time in the Finance Department as he completed his master's degree in business administration at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He became a full-time employee a year later, working in the Financial Analysis area until 1983, when he was promoted to the property casualty tax manager position. Four years later, he was appointed corporate tax director.

In 1999, the Board of Directors elected Dan vice president, controller. In that role, he was responsible for overseeing all financial planning and reporting, budgeting, financial analysis, loss reserving, tax planning and reporting, and corporate planning.

In 2001, Dan also assumed responsibility for the Customer Billing Department and in 2005 the Assistant Treasurer's department.

In 2006, Dan was elected chief financial officer and treasurer. Dan has responsibility for the Controller, Investment and Loss Reserving divisions as well as the Internal Audit department.

In May 2011, Dan was elected chief operating officer and on Nov. 1, 2011, he became president.

Dan has a bachelor's degree in accounting and an MBA from UW-Madison. He is a certified public accountant. He serves on the board of directors of American Family Mutual Insurance Company as well as the Second Harvest Food Bank.
