Professional Background
I have been a DeKalb County resident for most of my life. Born in Clinton, Iowa, my family relocated to DeKalb, Illinois when I was just six years old. In 2001, I graduated from DeKalb High School, then went on to complete my undergraduate degree at Western Illinois University. During my undergraduate studies, I spent 3 semesters abroad, studying in Cuernavaca, Mexico. I later returned to Mexico, where I lived completed a Master's program in Adult Education. As a kid, I aspired to be a business owner (that is, if the whole meteorology thing didn't work out), though somehow I owning a small café or coffee shop. That probably had something to do with the fact that I began working for a local bakery & café at the age of 15, which instilled in me a passion for food and hospitality. In total, I spent 10 years working in various hospitality companies, including 6 years as a restaurant manager. This prior work history makes me an asset to restaurant owners, catering companies and grocery stores, in my capacity as their insurance agent. But my unique qualifications do not end with the food service industry. As fluent Spanish-speaker, I am well-positioned to assist the Spanish speaking community with all of their insurance needs, including everything to home and auto insurance to business protection and life insurance. Seeing that my grandfathers were farmers, working with famers has long-since been a passion of mine. Together, my grandparents raised three children, while tending to chickens, cattle, pigs and cover crops. For this reason, farmers have my inherent respect; They labor long hours, often working in sometimes uncomfortable conditions, with few guarantees--and even so, a farmer's work is never done. I know firsthand how hard farming families have to work in order to make (and even sometimes lose) money. The farming way of life has been a blessing to my family, but it is a blessing that came only with a great deal of sacrifice. That's why insuring a farm (regardless of it's size) is always a BIG DEAL for me, as well as a great honor! Other passions I have include working with individuals and families who are actively perusing personal and/or financial goals, as well as first-time home-buyers, and small business owners, including independent contractors. Perhaps it is my experience as a former-educator the draws me to first-time home-buyers and start-up businesses, but as an out-side-of-the-box, creative thinker, I relish the opportunity to work collaboratively with more established business owners to help them achieve their business objectives. I get a great deal of personal satisfaction in knowing that I help people--whether it be helping a young couple confidently endure the nail-biting process of buying their first home; or that I showing a single mother how she can protect her family with life insurance, even on her limited budget; or giving a new business owner some tips to make his store safer for employees; or helping an independent painting contractor to understand why his personal auto insurance policy may not cover him properly if he were ever to be involved in an accident. The truth of the matter is that insurance is a tool, and just like any other tool, it is of little use until placed in the hands of a craftsman (or woman). Insurance companies and insurance agents are a dime a dozen, and we all carry pretty much the same set of tools around in our tool belts. So what makes a craftsman? Passion. Dedication, Precision. Hopefully by now, you've gotten a sense of my passion. What you cannot possibly know (unless you have worked with me) is the level of dedication and precision with which I do my job. I know how to use all of the tools in my tool belt, and I exercise my expertise to build strong insurance portfolios for my clients. My areas of strength include product knowledge, strategy, understanding of legal concepts, access to outside resources, connections, collaboration, development of internal talent. It was a winding road that led me to where I am today. But my previous work experience and all the people I have met along the way have prepared me for the great privilege and responsibility which I have been afforded. If you are "shopping" for your first insurance agent, or a new insurance agent, look no further than my agency. My staff and I are here to assist you and with all of your insurance needs.
Hobbies & Interests
I enjoy time with family, especially outdoors. I enjoy an active lifestyle, play soccer, and am currently pursuing a black belt in Taekwondo. I prefer the radio over the TV. I enjoy cooking (and eating) good food, preferably with family and friends. I love a good sermon, reading the Bible, and listening to music.
