In January 2013, American Family announced it was partnering with professional golfer and Wisconsin native Steve Stricker to develop and co-brand a foundation to help build strong families and healthy kids so they can achieve their dreams.

In July 2013, the foundation made its first community gift, contributing $50,000 to benefit United Way of Dane County’s Healthy Food for all Children initiative to help make fresh, nutritious foods accessible to low-income families through Dane County’s 55 food pantries.

Steve and Nicki Stricker, Leslie Ann Howard and American Family CEO Jack Salzwedel shortly after the $50,000 gift was made.

“There are about 122,000 children in Dane County, and 19,000 of those children are food insecure. The impact of hunger on children is devastating while a child’s body and brain are developing, especially in the first eight years of life. We live in a time and a place where we shouldn’t accept childhood hunger. Thanks to the Strickers and American Family, these children won’t have to wait.”
