Pro golfer Steve Stricker and American Family Insurance create charitable foundation

Madision, Wis. (Jan. 3, 2013) – Professional golfer Steve Stricker and American Family Insurance today announced a three-year partnership that creates a charitable foundation for children and young adults, in addition to marketing opportunities between the Wisconsin-based golfer and the insurance company.

The association between 12-Time PGA Tour winner Stricker and American Family Insurance begins at this weekend’s Hyundai Tournament of Champions in Kapalua, Hawaii. The tournament, with Stricker as the defending champion, is the first PGA Tour event of the 2013 season.

Under the partnership, Madison-area resident Stricker and American Family are co-branding a charitable foundation, and the golfer will make other appearances in support of American Family’s involvement with high school sports. The American Family Insurance logo will also appear on Stricker's golf shirt as he competes on the PGA Tour.

“This partnership was a natural fit for both Steve Stricker and American Family Insurance,” said Jack Salzwedel, American Family’s chairman and chief executive officer, pointing to Stricker’s recognition by the PGA for charitable work in the form of the Payne Stewart Award. The concept of working together began at a function for the American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, which Stricker supports and American Family helped fund.

“It didn’t take long for us to realize that Steve Stricker and American Family Insurance shared a vision of what we could accomplish together through a charitable foundation,” Salzwedel said.

The charitable foundation will help children and young adults pursue and achieve their dreams in their communities. Further information on the foundation and its contact information will be announced at a future date, as those details are worked out.

"I look forward to a great partnership with American Family Insurance and I am proud to represent their brand," said Stricker. "American Family is an impressive company and I am excited about building a relationship with their team and establishing an impactful charitable foundation."

Stricker parallels American Family’s interests on another level, as well. American Family protects customers’ dreams through insurance products and services, and the company incorporated a variety of promotions to beckon the public to explore and rekindle their dreams.
Stricker’s dream of achieving success as a professional golfer hit a mid-career lull, and he rededicated himself to his craft in 2006.

“Here’s someone who had a dream, made it happen, and then saw his dream start to slip away from him,” Salzwedel said. “Through sheer determination and hard work, Steve Stricker got his dream back on track, achieving even greater success at an age when many golfers have leveled off or declined.”

Salzwedel said the association with a recognizable PGA Tour golfer also will help build name recognition as American Family considers means of expanding beyond its current 19-state service area.

Based in Madison, Wis., American Family Insurance offers auto insurance, homeowners insurance, life insurance, health insurance, business and farm/ranch insurance in 19 states. American Family insurance is the nation's third-largest mutual property/casualty insurance company. Web:; Facebook:; Twitter:
