Recovering From A Storm

When a big storm passes through and causes damage to your home, it can be hard to know what to do first. Not to worry — we’re here for you.

Take these steps to speed up the restoration of your home– and we’ll take care of the rest!

Be cautious. Remember, safety is your first priority. Make sure your family is safe and find a temporary place to stay if your home is unlivable with the current damages.

Report the damage. Before you go about making any repairs, make a claim by calling 1-800-MYAMFAM (692-6326), or reporting it online. We’ll work quickly to help you get your life back to normal.

Document the damage. Take photos and video of the parts of your home that have been damaged and share them with your claim adjuster. This way you’ll get the most accurate reimbursement estimate.

List your personal property. Write up descriptions of your personal property and belongings that have been damaged or destroyed by the storm. Briefly describe each item including its age, current value, make model and serial number. Or, use our home inventory app, DreamVault, to think ahead of the storm and avoid this step down the road.

Protect your wallet. Keep any receipts from repair purchases you make so you can document your reimbursement requests.

Select a contractor. It’s best to choose one that’s operated in the area for several years, is insured and bonded and gives you a written guarantee for the work performed. Or, take the guesswork out of the equation by choosing from one of American Family’s trusted Certified Repair Program contractors.

No matter what Mother Nature throws your way, rest easy knowing we’re here to help you rebuild and restore. We’ll have you back to pursuing your dreams in no time!
