6 Steps to Finding the Right Daycare
When it comes to your kids, getting them top-notch care while you’re at work all day is priority number one. Your growing family means everything to you and you’ll do what it takes to find a daycare that you’re comfortable with and one they’ll love.
Not sure where to begin? We’ve got you covered! Use these guidelines to help you make the best possible choice:
Define your priorities. Before anything else, it’s important to define what’s most important to you in a daycare center. Are you looking for a place close to work, or home? Are you comfortable with a larger center or prefer a smaller, more intimate setting? Is price a big factor? Take some time and write a list of exactly what you’re looking for and what you won’t compromise on.
Ask around. There’s no better way to start your search than by tapping into your own resources. Ask other parents you trust where they take their kids and what they recommend for your family — they’ll be your most honest source during this process!
Initiate interviews. Once you’ve landed on a place or two you’d like to check out, it’s time to interview them for the job. Prepare a list of questions and drop by during normal daycare hours to get a feel for the whole operation. Pay attention to how kids are treated, the layout and what toys and resources they have available.
Do a policy check. If they pass your first round of interviews, ask if they’ll give you a print-out of their policies for you to review — think discipline philosophies, feeding practices, sick-child policy, typical schedules, etc. The more questions you ask now, the less likely you are to stumble upon unpleasant surprises down the line.
Check references. Just like with any job interview, the daycares you’re looking into should be prepared with a list of references for you to tap into. Take time to call and talk to former or current clients to learn how happy they’ve been with their experience. It’ll help with your final decision.
Trust your gut. It’s simple — if you’re not comfortable or something just feels off, cross that daycare off the list. You’ll want to be absolutely sure you’re making the right decision and odds are you’ve got plenty of other options to explore.
When it comes down to it, finding a daycare for your little ones can be a daunting task. Just use our guide and take things one step at a time. You’ll find the perfect fit for your family in no time!
