In my youth, I lived in CA, FL and IL. I met my wife JJ while we attended the University of WI-Madison, where we both were Cheerleaders. After graduation, we moved to Chicago where I worked in public accounting and JJ in real estate management. We moved to Minnesota to start a career with American Family Insurance which was one of the best decisions I have made to date. JJ and I have two children-Dylan and Leah, and enjoy a variety of activities including Swimming, Tae Kwon Do, Gymnastics, and all virtually all team sports.

Derek attended and is a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s School of Business with a double major in Accounting and Finance, and has since attained a CPA designation. While at UW, Derek and his wife-to-be JJ were Varsity Cheerleaders and stunting partners, and were chosen to participate in four NCAA bowl games during their tenure. Derek’s professional experience started as an Analyst for Price Waterhouse Coopers accounting firm in Chicago, from which he moved to being a Senior Analyst for American Capital Strategies, Ltd. Newly married and looking to find a career that was people-based instead of data-based, Derek was chosen in 2008 to lead a full-service agency for American Family Insurance in the Twin Cities. Derek and his wife JJ now live in Eden Prairie with their son Dylan (8) and daughter Leah (5). JJ works part-time as a Real Estate Analyst and is a Board Member of the Eden Prairie PTO. With any luck, Dylan and Leah will continue the family’s cheerleading tradition at UW (GO BADGERS!). The Clément’s are active in both the Eden Prairie and Plymouth communities, supporting academic, animal welfare, sports and volunteer causes. Derek and JJ remain active with UW Athletics and the UW alumni association and share a passion for world travel. In addition to travel, Derek enjoys nothing more than coaching the kid’s sports teams, participating in their activities, and loves his hobbies of landscaping and home improvement projects.
