As a study participant, we're not asking you to change your driving habits. But if you want to improve your driving score, here are a few tips:

Hard Braking

Give other vehicles more space. Keep appropriate following distances that suit your speed, traffic conditions and weather. Doing so will give you more time to react to traffic hazards and reduce aggressive braking.

Beware of intersections. Slow down earlier and apply gentle pressure to your brakes, allowing your vehicle to stop gradually at red lights and stop signs. This also gives other motorists around you more time to react. Doing so will decrease your chances of a rear-end collision.

Vehicle maintenance is essential. Ensure your tires, rotors, brake pads and fluids are well maintained. Even the most skilled drivers cannot brake smoothly with faulty mechanics. Refer to your owner’s manual for proper vehicle care.

Speeding

Use the technology in your vehicle. The easiest way to avoid speeding on long drives or an open freeway is to use your cruise control.

Be aware of the cost of speeding. Driving over the speed limit uses more gas, leading you to pay more at the pump. It could also lead to traffic tickets and wear out your tires faster.

Plan for travel time. Check estimated travel times, routes and traffic well before it's time to go. You can also set an alarm to help you leave earlier if you often run late.

Mileage

Reduce your outings strategically. Plan your errands and appointments more efficiently. Decrease your mileage by combining multiple tasks into a single trip.

Consider carpooling. Sharing rides with friends, family or colleagues with similar destinations can lower your mileage.

Take advantage of public transportation. Using public transit, such as a bus or a train, for your daily commute or long trips can significantly reduce your mileage.
