To help you prepare for your new career, please complete the activities listed below prior to your first day of training.

  3. American Family Insurance's history is a remarkable story that started with a single idea. A struggling insurance salesman named Herman Wittwer believed a company could make money selling auto insurance to Wisconsin farmers. Herman understood that farmers presented lower risks compared to city drivers because they drove less often and put their cars up on blocks for the winter. Armed with this customer knowledge, Herman confidently opened the doors of Farmers Mutual Automobile Insurance Company on Oct. 3, 1927.

    Over the years, our market grew from rural areas to small towns, suburbs and metropolitan areas. Our customers' needs also changed, and we changed right along with them by expanding our products and services. Our company's name changed in 1963 to American Family Mutual Insurance Company to reflect a broader customer base.

    American Family Insurance now offers auto, home, life and annuities1, health, business and farm/ranch insurance. We've expanded geographically, too. Currently, we operate in 19 states spanning from Washington to Ohio.

    Our customer relationships have helped us build a strong and stable company with more than $4.8 billion in policyholder equity. As a mutual company, our customers and owners are one in the same.     Hello, I’m Gerry Benusa, Chief Sales Officer. Welcome to American Family’s New Agent Training Program.

    The goal of this program is to give you the tools to become a productive, successful, and customer-driven agent whose business is built on providing outstanding customer experiences.

    The program will focus on two major areas: the Sales Process and Business Operations. The training is designed to help you become successful at performing the tasks you will encounter as a new agent. Throughout the training, you will be asked to demonstrate the essential components of the sales process and business operations. This knowledge is the foundation for your long-term success as an American Family Agent.

    There are four key aspects of the NATP curriculum:

    1. It is designed with an outside-in approach. This means building the curriculum from the perspective of the customer first.
    2. It is created around the core concept of providing excellent customer service.
    3. It is written to prompt you to express and shape a clear vision of your personal dedication to servicing our customers.
    4. It is the foundation for building trusted long term relationships, customer satisfaction and agency growth.
