Committed to Our Community

Protecting what matters most through social, environmental, and economic good.

Ours to Sustain

At American Family Insurance, we're dedicated to protecting what matters most-and we know that goes beyond insurance. We believe our communities deserve a healthy environment to pursue their dreams in - that's why we're taking big steps to reduce our footprint and keep our planet sustained for generations to come.

We Target Zero Waste

We have dreams just like you, and we’re committed to achieving them. One of our biggest is to divert 90% of our waste away from landfills.

We’re Limiting Greenhouse Gasses

Greenhouse gas emissions work against our dream of a healthier environment. So we work hard to reduce our energy consumption.

We Work to Reduce our Water Consumption

From installing low flow toilets to converting our cooling tower to soft water, we’re always making new efforts to minimize our water usage.

We’re Cutting Down on Paper

Our dream for a green future includes preserving trees. That’s why we’ve reduced the amount of paper we use – these metrics are just the beginning of our paper saving initiative.

We Produce Renewable Energy

As part of our dream of improving the environment, we have taken several steps to make use of naturally produced energy sources.

Our Campus

Our Madison, Wisconsin headquarters sits on a beautiful plot of land – and we’ve done our best to keep it that way!

Prairie Restoration

In 2009, we pioneered an effort to plant a native prairie on our grounds as a way to return the land to its natural state – a big win for the local eco-system. We’ve now restored about 22 acres and are working on restoring 10 more. Because of these efforts, we’re proud to say we’ve created a beautiful habitat for many of Wisconsin’s native species.

There’s nothing more valuable than a dream, and nothing more important than a healthy environment to pursue yours in. Our evolving efforts are playing a big role in sustaining our planet for years – and dreamers – to come.

Investing in Our Community

At American Family Insurance, we believe that social impact doesn’t start or end with a check.

We focus on bringing our mission – to inspire, protect and restore dreams – into our own communities. By placing our focus on strengthening families facing socioeconomic or health concerns, we, along with our agents, are continually working to restore the ability of our community to pursue and achieve their dreams.

We seek to inspire families by providing pathways to success and opportunities to reach their fullest potential.

We protect families by providing physical, emotional and environmental assistance in our communities, which ensures a brighter future for all.

We restore families by helping communities regain a sense of wholeness following a family or individual crisis, or after experiencing a natural disaster.

American Family Insurance Dreams Foundation

The American Family Insurance Dream Foundation, Inc. builds on our long-standing commitment and support of our communities. As our mission has evolved from corporate giving to community investing, we’ve turned our focus to creating strong partnerships with nonprofit organizations that have helped us strengthen both families and communities.

American Family Children's Hospital

American Family Children's Hospital

The American Family Children’s Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin, is a world-class pediatric hospital, created with strong financial support – more than $15 million – from American Family, its employees and agents. Featuring a pediatric intensive care unit, a transplant surgery program and a children’s cancer center, the hospital has treated thousands of ill or injured children from 49 states since opening in 2007.

United Way

United Way

American Family’s support of United Way spans decades and reaches across its operating territory. With robust workplace giving campaigns in several of our largest corporate offices, American Family employees and agents donated over 1.7 million dollars in total to United Way chapters in 2015.

American Family employees at the corporate headquarters also won the 2015 Community Volunteer Business Award for mobilizing volunteers to complete a panel build in support of Habitat for Humanity of Dane County.

Steve Stricker American Family Foundation

Steve Stricker Foundation

In January 2013, American Family announced it was partnering with professional golfer and Wisconsin native Steve Stricker to develop and co-brand a foundation to help build strong families and healthy kids so they can achieve their dreams.

In July 2013, the foundation made its first community gift, contributing $50,000 to benefit United Way of Dane County’s Healthy Food for all Children initiative.

The foundation also hosted the American Family Insurance Championship, proceeds which benefitted the foundation and the American Family Children’s Hospital.

People. Passion. Purpose.

People Passion Purpose

Simply put, the people at American Family are our single greatest advantage. Our agents and employees have and will continue to be the reason customers choose to do business with us. Here, passion and purpose fill the halls. And we consistently challenge each other to be our best. Because here we believe that how we treat one another is just as important as what we deliver.

Diversity Makes the Difference.

At American Family Insurance, we believe in opportunity, not obstacles.

Our Business Resource Groups are dedicated to supporting our Women, Multicultural, Veterans, and LGBTA communities.

We value diversity, facilitate an inclusive work environment and encourage employee engagement – because it’s our varied viewpoints and distinct talents that bring us together and help us stand apart.

Employee Well-Being Matters.

Our holistic approach to employee well-being goes beyond promoting physical health and nutrition. We focus on overall quality of life including mental health, stress management, mindfulness and emotional well-being, financial health, community engagement and social well-being.
