What Does RV Insurance Cover?
Hitting the open road offers endless possibilities, however, accidents happen, and if you’re in an accident with your RV, we’ve got you covered.
Liability protection
Helps protect you and other drivers of your motorhome if you or they are at fault in an accident. This coverage helps pay expenses associated with injuries, property damage, first aid and court costs — so you can focus on the road and not your wallet.
Medical expenses
Helps protect you and others in the motorhome by paying for medical expenses due to an accident-related bodily injury, regardless of who is at fault.
Comprehensive coverage
Provides protection for accidental loss or damage (not caused by a collision) to your camper or motorhome from most causes, including fire, theft, vandalism, falling objects, hail damage and others.
Collision coverage
Helps protect you against loss or damage to your camper or motorhome caused by a collision, either with another vehicle or a stationary object, or rollover — whether or not you are at fault.
Personal property coverage
Provides coverage for the loss of covered personal property contained in, attached to or being used in connection with your camper or motorhome (within 25 feet). Coverage up to $500 is included, but additional coverage amount may also be purchased.
RV customization coverage
If you’ve outfitted your RV with enhancements that change the vehicle’s appearance or performance from its factory-shipped condition, your policy includes $1,000 of customization coverage. You can choose to increase the limit of coverage for customizations at an additional price. Note that these upgrades need to be permanently installed or are designed to become part of the vehicle in order to qualify.
Limited pet coverage
There’s no companion on the open road like the family pet, and that’s why it’s important they’re also covered in the case of an accident. Our limited pet coverage provides coverage for your cat or dog if they’re in your camper or motorhome during an accident or involved in another covered loss. This includes if the pet is stolen with the covered vehicle. Our coverage pays up to $1,000, regardless of the number of pets, and covers veterinary care and burial or disposal costs.
Vacation expense allowance
If you’re on vacation and your motorhome or camper is destroyed, our vacation expense coverage will help cover lodging costs, so your adventure can continue without a hitch. This coverage provides up to $200 for lodging costs.
Save for the Unexpected With Diminishing Deductible Coverage
When you have an RV insurance claim, you might have to pay a deductible before your insurance company kicks in to cover the repairs or replacement costs. At American Family Insurance, we know that a deductible isn’t always the easiest thing to pay after an accident. But with our Diminishing Deductible, we hope to ease that burden by offering a way to reduce your collision and comprehensive deductible amount. Here’s how it works:
Earn Credit Immediately
We’ll credit your deductible $100 day one. Let’s say you have a $500 deductible. Good news — it just dropped to $400.
Watch Your Deductible Diminish
Your deductible will continue to reduce each year at policy renewal, up to your policy’s maximum limit, as long as you maintain your policy with us.
Savings When You Need It
If you have a claim, you’ll pay a reduced deductible amount thanks to your Diminishing Deductible coverage. Your deductible then resets, so you’ll go right back to earning a reduced deductible amount.

Additional Coverages to Accompany Your RV Insurance
When life’s journey takes you on unexpected twists and turns, these add-on RV coverages can help keep your dreams in motion.
Uninsured motorist coverage
This protects you if you or anyone riding in your RV is hurt in an accident that was caused by an uninsured vehicle, or a hit-and-run driver.*
Underinsured motorist coverage
This helps pay for the balance of bodily injury damages when another driver is at fault and doesn’t carry enough insurance.*
Emergency Roadside Service for RVs
Did your motorhome breakdown? Get a flat tire? Have a dead battery? With this inexpensive coverage all it takes is a call to 1-800-MYAMFAM (1-800-692-6326) anywhere, anytime, to get help and get back on the road.*
Emergency roadside service isn’t included in your standard RV policy, but you can add it for an affordable price. Don’t let your adventure come to a halt due to the unexpected — add roadside insurance services and you’ll get the following assistance:
Easy towing. If your vehicle isn’t running or is stuck on a road or in a parking area, roadside assistance coverage will pay to have it towed to the nearest shop or garage so it can get the repairs it needs.
Battery jump. Dead battery? We’ll send someone out to give it a jump and get you back on the road.
Tire servicing. If you need a patch or tire change, our coverage will send a service person to help get you back on the road safely. (This service doesn’t includes the labor, not the repair or replacement costs of the tire.)
Deliver gas and oil. Out of fuel? We’ll bring the gas to your RV, so you can get to where you are going. (You’ll be responsible for paying the cost of the gas or oil.)
Dependable locksmiths. Locked your keys inside your car? We’ve all been there! Emergency Roadside Service pays to send a locksmith to lend a hand. (This service doesn’t include the cost of replacing your locks or keys if that’s necessary.)
Roadside repairs. A knowledgeable mechanic, if available, will meet you where your car breaks down and provide up to one hour of labor to get your vehicle up and running again. If a mechanic isn’t available for your location, we’ll send a tow truck.
