Car Insurance Discounts for Safe & Defensive Drivers

A Good Driving discount and a Defensive Driver discount are two separate ways of thanking you for driving responsibly. The Good Driving discount is automatically applied to recognize customers with good driving behavior over a period of five years, while a Defensive Driver discount is a state-mandated discount applied when you complete a defensive driver course.

We believe the best drivers on the road are the safest drivers, which is why we recognize them accordingly with our Good Driving and Defensive Driver discounts. American Family believes that proactive drivers should be rewarded for their smart habits. Read on to find out if your safe driving habits qualify you for any of the following discounts on your car insurance.

Good Driving Discount

There are drivers, and then there are good drivers. While we could simply say thank you for being safe on the road, we’d like to show our thanks instead. That's why we offer the Good Driving discount, where you can earn a discount on your premium.* Our qualifications for a Good Driving discount are simple — no accidents, violations or claims within the last 5 years. Sound like you? Congratulations! You may be eligible for a reduced insurance premium, depending on your policy.**

Defensive Driver Discount

In certain locations, when you complete an approved driver course, you could be eligible for our Defensive Driver discount. And while the price varies from state to state, defensive driving school is a great investment for both your safety and your car insurance premium. We’d call that a win-win.
