How Does a Water Leak and Flood Sensor Work?
Undetected water damage can result in costly damage to your home and may result in you submitting a homeowners insurance claim — but early detection systems like water leak and flood sensors can help prevent damage and the headache that comes with the time you’ll spend coordinating resources to repair the damage. You’ll place your Frontpoint Flood Sensor in flood-prone areas, such as a basement or near appliances like a washing machine, water heater or sump pump. The sensor has small metal conductors and when the conductors come into contact with water, the alarm will be activated on your control panel.
Installing Your Water Leak and Flood Sensor
The Water and Flood Sensor is comprised of two pieces: a transmitter and a detector. Once you’ve decided on the location for your sensor, adhere the detector (smaller piece) to the floor with the metal prongs and serial number facing down since that’s what senses the water. Then adhere the transmitter (larger piece) to the wall, at least 10 inches above the floor and as far from the appliance as possible.
What Happens When Your Water and Flood Sensor Detects Water?
Your water leak detector is always monitored to alert you of leaks or flood conditions, even when your system is disarmed. If your water and flood sensor detect water, your panel’s alarm will sound to notify you there’s a leak. It’ll also notify the Frontpoint monitoring center who’ll contact you and leave a message if you don’t answer. There’s no dispatch associated with this type of alarm.
